Keeneland Week 2

I'm back in Lexington for the weekend after another brief business trip. This weekend features the Bluegrass Stakes. A major Derby prep.

Last weekend we caught the Transylvania Stakes which was won by Nordic Truce. I'm working on catching the head on shot at the wire. I love how this one came out thanks to Julien Leparoux's look of determination:

Then on Saturday we shot the Ashland Stakes which ended up being won by Evening Jewel who shipped in from California. Evening Jewel is the pretty bay with the very colorful orange/pink and yellow silks (appropriate silks for Easter weekend). She won it from practically having the lead right from the gate to the wire, not an easy way to travel!

Amazingly, Evening Jewel had been purchased for only $8,000 and here she is winning Grade 1 races! That's racing for you! You just never know.

My girl She Be Wild came in 3rd - she has the baby blue and white silks.

Later this afternoon Keeneland races will feature Nicanor's (Barbaro's full brother) first race as a 4 year old as well as champion filly, Informed Decision, who will run in her first race after a 5 month layoff today. It should be a fun afternoon!

  1. Excellent pictures--LOVE when the TBs have all their feets off the ground, and that final picture of Evening Jewel, stretching forward and running for all she's worth--excellent!

Good job! What an exciting life you lead. Thanks for sharing with us.
